Top Hospitals in India for Kenyan Patients (2026)
Choosing a hospital in India comes down to your diagnosis, your surgeon's experience and accreditation you verify yourself, plus what the Nairobi High Commission needs in the invitation letter.

India has several leading hospitals, so the useful question is not which one leads overall. You are choosing where a specific operation happens, performed by a specific surgeon, for a specific diagnosis, and narrowing it that way turns a wide field into a shortlist of two or three. The
partner hospitals
TMTC works with span Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad among nine cities in all. This guide covers how to do that narrowing, and the check that matters most for Kenyan patients: whether the international desk can write an invitation letter carrying every field the High Commission in Nairobi asks for.Key takeaways
- Suitability follows from your diagnosis rather than a ranking. A centre with real depth in cardiac sub-speciality is not automatically right for complex spine work, and the reverse holds too.
- Verify accreditation yourself on the JCI and NABH registries. Both are public and searchable by hospital name.
- The High Commission of India in Nairobiasks for an invitation letter from an approved hospital or recognised doctor in India, naming the patient and attendants with their passport numbers, the illness, the duration of treatment and the estimated cost, emailed to the mission's visa address.
- The mission asks travellers arriving in India from Kenya to hold a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, given at least ten days before travel by a government-approved clinic, institute or hospital. Arrange it early rather than in your final week. It states that oral polio vaccine is not required for travel from Kenya.
One operation, one surgeon, one diagnosis
Rankings measure size and brand recognition. Three narrower things carry more weight for your result: how often the named surgeon performs your specific operation, whether the supporting specialties can manage a complication in your particular case, and how the hospital organises the first fortnight after surgery.
Volume is the one people underrate. A hospital admitting tens of thousands of patients a year tells you nothing about how many times the consultant in front of you has performed the operation you need. Two centres can both be accredited, both be large, and still differ by a factor of ten on that number. It is a fair question and one worth putting to the consultant directly rather than to the hospital's marketing.
Narrowing the field
Start with accreditation, since it is settled without anyone's help. Look the hospital up by name on the JCI and NABH registries. This matters procedurally as well, because Nairobi asks for the invitation letter to come from an approved hospital or recognised doctor in India.
After that, establish volume for your procedure rather than total admissions, and find out which sub-specialties support your case if it becomes complicated. Find out how many international patients the hospital handles, since a desk working with East African patients weekly has routines a low-volume desk does not. Then turn to consumables, because the implant or device is often the largest variable in the final bill. For orthopaedic work the implant brands across TMTC's partner hospitals are those specified in UK and German hospitals, Zimmer Biomet, Stryker and DePuy Synthes. Request the brand and model in writing before surgery.
Key point: Of everything on this page, accreditation is the item that needs no cooperation from anyone.JCI's international listandNABH's directoryare both public, and a search by hospital name settles it in a couple of minutes. Do it before records are sent or a deposit is paid.
The partner hospitals and where they are
| Hospital | Location |
|---|---|
| Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital | Saket, New Delhi |
| Apollo Hospital | Sector 26, Noida |
| Park Hospital | Sector 47, Gurugram |
| Manipal Hospital | Whitefield Bengaluru, Pune and Vaishali Ghaziabad |
| Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road | Bengaluru |
| Aster CMI Hospital | Hebbal, Bengaluru |
| Jaslok Hospital | Pedder Road, Mumbai |
| Yashoda Hospital | Somajiguda, Hyderabad |
| CARE Hospital | Hi-Tech City, Hyderabad |
| Kiran Multispeciality Hospital | Katargam, Surat |
The full network is published on the
partner hospitals
page. Delhi is not the default. Large tertiary centres sit in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad too, and which one suits you depends on the surgeon your case is matched to rather than on which city is most familiar. The comparison that repays effort is at consultant level, and the
specialists
can be reviewed individually before you commit to an institution. What Nairobi asks the Indian hospital to write
The mission's medical visa list is more specific than most, and the specificity is the point.
The invitation letter has to come from an approved hospital or recognised doctor in India and carry the name of the patient and of each attendant, their passport numbers, the illness, the duration of treatment and the estimated cost of treatment. The mission asks for it to be sent to its visa address by email. Alongside it go medical documents establishing the need for treatment in India and a referral letter from your local hospital or doctor, also emailed to the mission.
The rest of the file covers funds and relationships. Proof of sufficient funds for the stay and the treatment, through an original bank statement for the past three months, a salary certificate, or a sponsorship or insurance letter, with a financial undertaking and proof of relationship where someone else is funding you. Proof of relationship with your attendant. A medical visa undertaking stating the purpose of the visit and your return home afterwards. Consent from both parents where a minor is travelling. And for follow-up treatment, the previous medical papers and discharge summary from the Indian hospital.
Two procedural points shape the day itself. Kenyan nationals are eligible for both the e-Visa and the regular paper visa, though the mission processes only the paper route and states that regular visas are normally processed in three to five working days. And for a medical visa, documents may be presented or collected only by an attendant or a close relative holding a signed letter of authority with verifiable identification, with no application accepted from a third party in any circumstance. Plan for someone in the family to attend in person, and for a return visit, since collection involves biometric registration at the mission.
Patient tip: Send the hospital the mission's own wording rather than requesting an invitation letter in general terms. Every field is named: patient and attendants, passport numbers, illness, duration and estimated cost. A letter drafted from that list, and emailed to the mission as well as to you, is the version that arrives complete.
Getting home, and what comes after
Choosing the hospital settles the operation. The weeks on either side of it settle how the trip actually goes, and discharge in India arrives well before anyone is fit for a long flight.
Our patients move to the
aftercare centre
, where a doctor and nurse are on site around the clock, physiotherapy runs daily and meals are designed by a nutritionist. They stay until a clinician certifies them fit to fly, rather than until a booking expires. The post-treatment insurance
included in the package covers a return flight to India and treatment in India if a complication develops, rather than treatment in Kenya, which is a real limit and one to read in the policy rather than take on trust. You fly home with a discharge summary and imaging handover, and coordination with your own doctor in Nairobi, Mombasa or wherever you live. Every recommendation is reviewed by TMTC's Medical Director of Primary Care, a UK-registered GP, giving the plan an additional layer of independent UK clinical oversight.Judge the Desk as Well as the Surgeon
Three checks settle this. Verify the accreditation yourself on the JCI or NABH registry. Find out how often the named surgeon performs your operation, rather than how large the hospital is. Confirm the international desk can produce an invitation letter carrying passport numbers, the illness, the duration and the estimated cost, and that it will email the mission directly. A hospital that clears all three belongs on your shortlist, whatever position it holds on anyone's ranking. If you would like a shortlist built around your records and your dates, a

Which hospital in India is right for Kenyan patients?
It depends on your diagnosis, the named surgeon's experience with your procedure and the adjacent specialties your case may need. Confirm JCI or NABH accreditation, establish procedure volume with the consultant, then compare two or three rather than working from a published ranking.
What must the Indian hospital's invitation letter include?
Nairobi asks for it to come from an approved hospital or recognised doctor and to state the patient and attendants by name, their passport numbers, the illness, the duration of treatment and the estimated cost. It also asks for the letter to be emailed to the mission.
Do I need a yellow fever certificate?
Yes. The mission states that travellers arriving in India from Kenya need a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, given at least ten days before travel by a government-approved clinic, institute or hospital. It also states that oral polio vaccine is not required for travel from Kenya.
Can someone else submit my application for me?
For a medical visa, only an attendant or a close relative with a signed letter of authority and verifiable identification may present or collect the documents. The mission states that no application is accepted from a third party in any circumstance, so plan for a family member to attend.
Do I have to travel to Delhi for treatment?
No. Alongside New Delhi the network covers Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Surat. Which city you travel to follows from the consultant your case is matched to, so it is settled after the clinical picture rather than before.
