Dr Vivek Vij

Dr Vij is a liver transplant surgeon and Chairman of Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Science at Fortis Hospital, Noida, with 25 years of experience. He is credited with developing living donor liver surgery in India and standardising safety protocols to protect donors.

He is the founder of Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Sciences across the Fortis group of hospitals, having started the programme at Noida and then at Mohali. Together with his team, he has performed more than 2,500 liver transplants, the majority of them at Fortis Hospital, Noida. He is also the first surgeon from the Indian subcontinent to publish a series of laparoscopic donor hepatectomy cases in the journal Liver Transplantation.

His work has been recognised with several awards, including Best Liver Transplant Surgeon at Sanjeevani in 2023 and 2024, at the HTI Global Healthcare and Wellness Summit in 2024, and at Advantage Healthcare India in 2023, as well as a special award from the International Liver Transplant Society in Chicago in 2015.
